The Center for Visually Impaired Children – Uganda (CEVIC – Uganda), was founded in 2009 by Parents of VIC. The parents of VIC were motivated by the desire to provide education to their children, having failed to find appropriate schools for these young ones.
In this part of the country (Kampala, Wakiso and Mpigi Districts), children in the demographic category of 4 – 7 years, could not find a school that fits in their profile.
Visual Impairment like any other disability comes with psychosocial challenges. These challenges are often associated with financial limitations to both the individual and the community. In the absence of both psychosocial and financial support, many VIC are kept in the backyard, not given equal treatment and opportunities like their ordinary counter parts and therefore relegated to the lowest stratum of society. CEVIC – Uganda was therefore founded as an intervention to offer education, psychosocial and financial support to the parents and VIC.
